[ music | None ]

For those of you who do know I have been without a job for about a month now (I figure most of you that keep up with the game industry already knew). The company I was working at shut down.

I didn't feel like talking to a lot of people about it since I needed to start focusing on looking for a new job.

I have finally managed to get one. Starting on Monday I will be working at EA (Electronic Arts) as a QA Dev Tester.

From what I understand this is a higher position then I was in before. I am actually doing tests that the developers need done. This includes some art related tests as well as basic design stuff. I will find out more about this on Monday during my training.

tech update [15 Feb 2008|08:58pm]
[ mood | sick ]
[ music | None ]

Figured I would post this since some people do not keep up with tech news.

It looks like there are some digital photo frames that contain a really nasty Trojan Virus on them. I am not sure if there is a list of the models yet, supposedly several of the models (at various stores) have been pulled.

This thing is bad, even with auto run disabled just plugging these frames to your computer will pass along the trojan.

movie info [06 Jan 2008|10:57pm]
[ mood | confused ]
[ music | Sam & Max Season 1 Soundtrack ]

Well things are calming down a bit at work, at least for now. So I figured I would do an update.

Here are a couple of movie updates.

1) Biohazard (Resident Evil) Degeneration
A full GCI movie. This deals with Leon and Claire. There are some rumors of a second version being done that focuses on Alice. Release is planned for 2008.

Want to see a trailer:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/147968.html?playlist=featured

2) Dragonball Live Action
Yes, once again Hollywood figures why not take another Japanese item and make a movie of it. How bad could it be? Worse then the Hong Kong version several years ago? Who knows but I did manage to find some set pics that claim to be the main actor in costume as Goku. If it is true, my eyes might bleed watching it.

Possibly based on the Piccolo Daimaoh Saga (Demon Lord Piccolo Saga)

Possible Main Cast:
Justin Chatwin ... Goku
James Marsters ... Piccolo
other cast:
Emmy Rossum
Yun-Fat Chow ... Master Roshi
Jamie Chung ... Chi-Chi
James Kyson Lee ... Yamcha (rumored)
Joon Park ... Yamcha
Eriko Tamura ... Mai

Possible release date Aug 2008. I hope not.

I know its been awhile since my last post. Things have been a little crazy at work. I am not allowed to go into detail about it. However, if you have your ears to the gaming industry and you remember where I work then you probably already know some of it.

Anyway, one of the reasons I am posting is that I decided to try out a trailer editing contest for Appleseed: Ex Machina. The video with the most votes gets the grand prize, a ticket to wondercon.

I am going to post the link for my video:

Note: I am not asking you to vote for me. Please check out the other trailers as well and vote for the one you think is the best.

For those of you who are curious the video contains slight violence.

[ music | None ]

Some interesting events have occurred, and they will make my weekend very busy.

Everything was going fine, until I got an e-mail stating I have been selected to participate in the LORTO (Lord of the Rings Online) Stress Test, which there are cool prizes for. Still I could manage that. Then I got invited to go to Tell Tale Games and playtest Sam & Max.

So here is my current plan for the weekend, well Saturday.

1) go to work for a few hours
2) Go to Tell tale Games (http://www.telltalegames.com/) to playtest Sam & Max Ep 4
3) Get back to my apt and join in for the LOTRO Stress test for 3-4hrs

Sunday:
1) Go to work
2) Back to Apt and back to LOTRO

So forgive me if I do not reply quickly to any e-mails or IMs.

Not too much is going on here. I am still working, so thats good. On that note my hours changed. I am now working Tues - Sat (10 - 7). So if you need to get in touch with me on those days the options are wait till I get home (which is about 8), call my cellphone, or AIM me. Any of those will be fine. Oh, you can e-mail me also, just not sure when I would be able to check it during work. I normally check it at least once at work.

If you would like to go check it out here is the URL. If you decided to sign up let me know.

It would be nice to get some Gaming Girls in on this. That way the site isn't one-sided.

Update [30 Aug 2006|08:07pm]
[ mood | content ]
[ music | City Hunter Drama CD - Private Eye ]

So once again I have spent a long time between posts. What have I been up to?...

Not too much really, looking for a new job. Today, that has been taken care of. On Friday (9/1/06) I start my first day at Perpetual Entertainment. I will be a QA (Quality Assurance) Tester once again. They do a lot of computer Online Games.

I think this might be good since I do not play them normally so if I get tired of it from work its ok. I will still have my console games. I am waiting for MGS 4.

In addition, I have been moving to a new place. It is closer to the city which will save some money on the commute to work now. So that is good. There were some troubles in the move; such as, the move taking 3 days instead of one. Some things not being fixed initally when we moved in. One of the phone jacks currently not working. Also, I managed to drop a dresser on my toe. Lots of fun there. Its healing nicey. Its great knowing basic first aid stuff. So all that is left now is finish unpacking everything. Oh, I have to wait till the 7th to get my cable reinstalled.

The other main thing I have been working on is helping planning some things for the Japan Town Anime Fair, which is held on Sept 16-17. I got asked last minute to ask some friends if they could come in and help out. I am so lucky that [info]daenerys and [info]tristencitrine are able to come out and help. It will be a short stay for them, but hopefully they will have fun.

Other then that I am working on some layouts for levels and some rigs in my head. I have started the mapping process on paper so we'll see how it goes.

Updating [19 Jul 2006|01:28pm]
[ mood | content ]
[ music | None - Does a fan running count? ]

So its been awhile since I last updated... I seem to be getting really good at that. Anyway...

Here is what has been going on. I was working at Sega for a bit. It was going well. However, I ended up getting sick and missed too many days so that ended. I did learn a good bit from my short stay there.

Now, I am back in the job hunt. Lets see how long it will take this time. hopefully, not as long.

Other then that I have been playing Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana. Its an Alchemy RPG released in America by NIS America. Here is the main site http://nisamerica.com/games/a6/index.html

I first heard of these game about a year ago. I was reading some Japanese game mag (Yes actually reading some of it, not just looking at the pics). I found this neat little promotional manga in there for the game. It looked interesting so I translated the manga. The main character they show, Lita, was an amusing character. I was hoping to got released in the US.

Here is what I like:

    1)Character to Character Interaction
    2)Character to NPC Interaction
3)The alchemy feature to make Mana Items
    4)Personalities of the Mana Spirits
5)You can actually switch to Japanese Dialog
    6)The Music
    7)Synthesis Feature
    8)The story and mini-stories
9)Switching characters during battle, even if they are dead

Here are some things I do not like:

1)The game does not save your dialog settings, so you have to switch it each time
    2)Japanese audio sometimes loops
3)The localization of it, some of text they put is nowhere close to correct

I think that is about it. Well off to play it some more.

On a side note I think the characters designs are interesting. I could see some of my friends cosplaying certain characters. If you cosplay and are curious if any character might work for you let me know, and I'll send pics.

To be a hedgehog or not to be....?... [20 Jun 2006|02:42pm]
[ mood | thoughtful ]
[ music | FFVII AC Soundtrack ]

So here is the deal with the strange subject line. My job search has taken an interesting turn. As lot of people know, I have been applying to big name companies and a few smaller ones.

Well, I had an interview with Sega on Friday (6/16/06). I was not sure how the interview went, I am very bad at reading interviews. Plus I had some issues with the way it went. So I didn't think much of it.

On Monday, I sent in an resume/cover letter to the hiring company for Sony. An hour after that I get a call from Konami, they do a short phone interview and say they want me to come in for a face to face interview on Wed (6/21/06). So I agree, then an hour after that the hiring company for Sony calls and says they want me to come in also. That was more then I was expecting. So I arrange an easier way to get there and relax some. I check my e-mail and in it is a notification saying Sega wants to hire me and wants me to start on the 29th.

A lot of things are still running (No pun intended) through my head. So I figured it would be good to list the pros/cons of each.

Company: Sega
Position: QA (Quality Assurance) Tester
Status: Secured - waiting on my decision
Pay: 11.50/hr (with possible overtime)
Commute (Public Transportation) Time: 1.5 hrs
Commute Cost: 5.00 (one-way)
Contract length: 9 Months
Bonus:
1)Should be able to get a discounted PS3
2)One of my contacts at Sega of Japan wants to work with me on a game. This could make it easier

Company: Konami
Position: QA Tester
Status: Have to go to the interview
Pay: 12.00/hr (with possible overtime)
Commute (Public Transportation) Time: 2.5 hrs
Commute Cost: around 12.00 (one-way)
Contract length: 6-9 Months
Bonus:
1)I Could get to test Metal Gear Solid 4

Company: Sony
Position: QA Tester
Status: Have to go to the first meeting and take a test
Pay: 12.00/hr (with possible overtime)
Commute (Public Transportation) Time: 2.5 hrs
Commute Cost: around 13.00 (One-way)
Contract length: 1 year
Bonus:
1)Might get to work on the PS3
2)Possible discount on the PS3

Any thoughts on this?

Found a buffet restaurant close by that actually has one of those chocolate fountains. Yeah, you can go up whenever you want and get some chocolate covered strawberries or marshmallows whenever you want. I am not sure if they have more things, that is just what I noticed.

Dorkiness [29 May 2006|11:47pm]

So here is one thing that helps prove I am a dork.

I finally found out that they releasing Animaniacs on DVD.

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=202515758&loc=322&sp=1&queryType=video_dvd&

Its a 5 DVD set, saying Vol 1 set for a July 25 release.

I am thinking of getting it. Its been a long time. Personally I like Slappy. Of course the voice acting done by Rop Paulsen (Dr. ScratchNSniff, Yakko, Pinky) and Tress MacNeille (Rita) is great.

Good memories with this show. So many jokes that weren't for little kids, its ok they still liked it, they just didn't get it all.

I could wait to see if this makes it to BlueRay, but since there are two studios involved with this show, I may not wait.

Looked around and it seems they are releasing the Street Fighter II Animated movie again. This time through Manga, and it is subtitled and uncut. Granted the cover looks bad. But for 19.98 its fine.

Being an old dork [09 May 2006|10:22pm]

[ music | Tatakae Tatakae Otaking ]

So checking my favorite site for random movie info, found some great news for SCI-FI dorks.

Finally its happening Lucas is releasing the original versions of the original Star Wars Trilogy (4 - 6) on DVD.

Yep this time as it was meant to be Han shoots first

That will make it worth it. You will be able to watch the other version as well. But note this, Lucas is taking an idea from Disney these DVDs will have a marketed shelf life of Sept 12 - Dec 31st. Each DVD will be about $30.00, I really don't care if he is doing it for more money. This is a great thing. I had refused to watch the newer versions, due to the reworking of them. I have heard lots of issues, mostly about the whole blaster incident with Han. All in all, the main thing I had a problem with is the blaster thing.

The newest thing I am waiting for:

Project Fabula Nova Crystallis

What is that? It is Latin for "The New Tale of the Crystal" It is the new project name for the triple (Yes triple) game release of Final Fantasy XIII.

  • Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
  • Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)
  • Final Fantasy Agito XIII (Mobile)

The games will deal with different characters but be in the same world. It should be interesting seeing how they tie together.. not to mention what will happen with the mobile version. America's Mobile game area is lacking a lot.

Japan Town 100th Anniversary / Cherry Blossom Festival 2006 [24 Apr 2006|11:53pm]
[ mood | tired ]
[ music | Mari Ijima's Wonderful People CD ]

Well, I was thinking of going to bed now, but since [info]ziggybecket and [info]tristencitrine updated about the 2006 Cherry Blossom Festival I figured I should as well.

This year was fun. Even though there were some initial problems, things managed to work out.

--------------Saturday------------
It was a good thing that I decided to take [info]tristencitrine to meet the sponsor for the costume contest/parade on Saturday. I was really tired, but I had to do it to drop off a camcorder. It turns out that the other judge got sick, so that kind of changed things. However, [info]tristencitrine had an idea. She decided to call [info]ziggybecket and ask him if he would be willing to step in. After some "arm twisting", food, and teasing he agreed to do it.

We got invited to the special VIP dinner for Mari Ijima. For those of you who do not know she was the voice actress for Lynn Minmay in SDF Macross (Known in America as Robotech). It was a nice dinner at a restaurant I hadn't been to due to the price. It was nice. I didn't talk to Mari Ijima there, the sponsor was talking to her about the concert stuff. While I was quiet during the meal, I wasn't bored. Along with listening to normally four different sets of conversations (sometimes my hearing is a little too good) and geeking out it was fun. I actually spent a good bit of time looking around and figuring out how to break down and design the room in 3D for the Unreal Engine. Too much geeking sometimes. But it was nice. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

------------Sunday----------------
The contest was ok. It started off slow. It even started to rain a bit, but it stopped and cleared up very fast.

There were a lot of great costumes. The level of detail was much higher than last year. It was very impressive. I saw a good number of people I remember from last year. That was nice. While I do not actually know them, it was nice to see they were still doing what they liked and how their skills improved.

I kind of felt bad for [info]ziggybecket and [info]tristencitrine. They were not ready for the small amount of time we had for each person. Mostly the time restriction was due to the parade, it was a time line that was hard to adjust. At first they were asking a lot of questions, but they picked up speed as it went on. [info]ziggybecket and [info]tristencitrine Seemed a little exhausted after it. But they seemed to enjoy it.

So [info]ziggybecket and [info]tristencitrine went into the parade. [info]tristencitrine was holding the banner on one side and [info]ziggybecket got a press badge to be able to be in the parade and take photos. While I was asked by the sponsor if I wanted to do it, I decided on taking everyone's gear to Japan Town since I had to prep for the presentation and concert.

Five minutes after the parade left I went looking for the shuttle service, after five or ten more minutes I still couldn't find it. So I decided to walk the bus routes and pick one up as I went. However, I forgot the bus route was all messed up due to the parade. I ended up walking the almost two mile distance up hill with extra weight in about ten minutes.

I got there just before the costume section got to Japan town, and I started setting up the camcorders. Luckly one of my friend was there earlier doing a lot of the initial test. But we still had a lot to do. When [info]ziggybecket and [info]tristencitrine came up to me, they thought I was upset, but I was just rushing about trying to get things fixed up. They decided to get a snack before the presentation. I got the video stuff setup and was ready to go.

The presentation for the winners went well. Then it was time for the concert. [info]ziggybecket and [info]tristencitrine went to go eat, they were very hungry and tired. They kept asking if I wanted to go or wanted anything. But I had to take care of the recording. So they went off and I did the recording. I think the video came out well. I have to check it soon.

After that, I packed up the camera gear ran over to the area where Mari Ijima was doing an autograph session. I filmed some of it. Then I picked up one of her new CDs (go to http://www.marimusic.com to buy her CDs), a key chain, and some stock photos. I talked to her for a bit which is a first for me. While I have met her several times, it is hard for me to talk to her. Even when I met Kamiya Akira-sensei and the like (actors/"famous" people I have so much respect for) I do not have a problem. However, her I always have. We talked about when I first met her and her acting. I mentioned how I enjoyed her acting in Pacific Blue, since she got to play the "Bad Girl." She also liked that role. She also mentioned that she remembers my face from the cons that was interesting. I even got a discount on the things I bought.

After that was over, I picked up the Thank you gifts for [info]ziggybecket and [info]tristencitrine and presented it to them. Afterwards there was some shopping, and then dinner for me and a snack after. Some pics taken and the ride back to the apt.

While it was busy it was fun. I really owe a lot to [info]ziggybecket and [info]tristencitrine. Also my thanks goes out to [info]daenerys while she couldn't make it she was very helpful and professional about it. I can't wait for the next time we get to hang out or work together. Of course my friend who sponsored the event was so nice to invite me back this year.

Well, I think that is it, if you want more info let me know.

moving [11 Apr 2006|10:32pm]
So to let you know, tomorrow (April 13th) I will be moving. All in all the move isn't too far, about a 40 min drive or so.

The area is much better, the place is bigger, etc. I'll give more of a description later.

This means though that my internet connect will be cut tomorrow, and will not be active again till the 19th or so. So if you need to get in touch with me, call me. Otherwise you will have to wait.

updating [02 Apr 2006|11:49pm]
[ music | None ]

So it has been some time, so here is an update for those of you interested.

On March 23rd, I graduated from The Art Institute of CA - San Francisco, with a B.S. in Game Art and Design.

My QGPA = 4.0 (A first, as far as I can recall)
My overall GPA = 3.6 (not too bad, could have been better, if I didn't slack off a couple of times)

So the 23rd was filled with the fun of the portfolio show. What's that?... well, its just where all the grads get together and display their work, resumes, and demo reels (If they have them) to potential employers. Normally people from the industry come to the show. This time however, the game industry presence, wasn't overly strong. Mostly, it was due to the fact that The Game Developers Conference was going on that week. The location was a good drive also, so that is how it went.

I spend most of my time talking to some old instructors, parents, potential students, and 2nd qtr students. I did talk to a few people in the industry, but not too many.

Leading up to it, I spend most of my time on my comp working on things. If I wasn't helping someone setup and burn there demo reel, I was working on mine. I think over the last week I was sleeping about 2hrs a day, and that was normally in my chair in front of my comp. Of course, things kept going wrong. Things like my demo reel having to be re-burned due to quality issues, the postcards I ordered being delayed, me having to run out and getting more prints of things, etc. I spent a good deal of money on everything after it was all said and done.

I did manage to get my postcards in, a couple days after the show. So if anyone wants some let me know. I also have some demo reels left so if you are interested let me know. The demo reels are DVD video and should play in all NTSC Region 1 DVD players, and DVD drives.

I'll probably post images of the postcards, either, on my website, or both.

Other then that not too much has been going on.

Oh... I was asked to be a judge at the Cherry Blossom Festival Cosplay contest again. It looks like I should be able to do it, so that is good. However, my friend who is organizing it is kind of wanting a female judge as well, this would help balance it out. He is worried people might complain if the only judges are male. I can see his point. One person was already upset with me being a judge last year, because I do not cosplay. He didn't seem to like my answer either. Oh well, guess that is how it goes.

I have asked [info]tristinecitrine and [info]daenerys if they would like to be judges since they are close by and this is last minute. Hopefully, one of them will be able to do it. Guess we'll see what happens.

oh the basic info for the contest.
